Artist of the Month

There are bands, and then there is Oasis.

About Last Night… and the Night Before That.

Our Artist of the Month feature reminded us why the Gallagher brothers remain the patron saints of Britpop bravado and questionable sibling dynamics. Liam’s back on stage. Noel’s not talking to him (presumably). And somehow, Oasis is still the most relevant band to ever emerge from a Mancunian pub. In honor of their latest tour kick-off, we’re revisiting the prints that capture the brothers Gallagher in all their pre-digital, post-pint glory.

Let’s start with Oasis Morning Glory - a snapshot that bottles the iconic Oasis cover shot for “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, shot by Michael Spencer Jones on Berwick Street in Soho in 1995. Or there is black-and-white gem Noel and Liam at the Columbia Hotel which captures the Gallagher brothers at the Columbia Hotel, the day after they were banned from the hotel in 1994. And who can forget their ‘Be Here Now’ shoot at Stocks House, in Hertfordshire, England as depicted in the Oasis ‘Be Here Now’ Outtake. And finally, it wouldn’t be a blog post about Oasis unless we gave homage to Oasis at Main Road for their massive homecoming Manchester Stadium gig in 1996. Whether it is a live-wire snapshot from their imperial phase, when every lyric felt like scripture or a photograph just moody enough to double as decor and band therapy.

They say nostalgia comes in waves. This one just plugged in the amp. Were they chaotic? Yes. Timeless? Also yes. And in a world where band T-shirts are worn by people who’ve never heard “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” these prints are the real deal.
