SE: Your photography captures such a rich contrast between nature, urban life, and classic design. What draws you to these subjects, and how do you decide what moments to capture?

BVDM: I find beauty in many different things, whether it’s a fleeting moment, a particular quality of light, nature, cars, or fashion. I’m drawn to anything that captures my attention in a way that feels special. I decide to take a photo when I know I can capture the scene in a way that reflects how I’m experiencing it. My goal is to translate not just what I see, but how I feel in that moment. Photography allows me to share my unique perspective, offering others a glimpse into the way I see the world.

SE: There’s a timeless elegance to your images, from Land Rover Defenders on frozen lakes to vibrant umbrellas on an Italian beach. Where has been your favorite place in the world to shoot?

BVDM: Italy is home for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to live in such a beautifully raw place—I never leave my camera behind. Here, I especially love shooting in Ischia and Sardinia, where the landscapes are endlessly inspiring. But if I had to pick the most breathtaking location I’ve ever shot in, it would have to be Careyes, Mexico. The light there is magical, and when combined with its unique architecture and stunning natural surroundings, it creates an atmosphere that’s truly one of a kind.

SE: Your portfolio spans everything from fashion to landscapes to documentary-style imagery. How do you adapt your approach depending on the subject?

BVDM: When I shoot fashion photography, I can fully unleash my creativity. I always have a flood of ideas in my head before a shoot, and I love bringing them to life. I take the time to write them down and immerse myself in the mindset I want to create for the shoot. But when it comes to landscape or documentary-style photography, my approach is the opposite. I step back, observe, and let the world unfold around me. The moments reveal themselves naturally, and I simply capture what I see.

SE: What image do you wish you had taken?

BVDM: I never leave home without my camera because I see pictures everywhere I go—I wouldn’t forgive myself if I missed a moment. So, in a way, I like to think I’ve never let a picture opportunity slip away. But if I could go back in time and capture one image, it would be of Jack Nicholson in the 1970s. His expressions and energy were completely one of a kind. I’m a little obsessed with the vibe of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and I would have loved the chance to take a truly unique portrait of him in that era.

SE: And finally, what is your favorite image in your Sonic Editions Collection? BVDM: I love “Sunbathers in Sankt Moritz.” There’s something about Sankt Moritz that feels frozen in time—in the best way. When I capture it on film, it still holds that beautifully vintage vibe. Combining that with the stunning snowy mountains creates a truly special image, one that feels both timeless and cinematic.
