Emerging in the early 70s with some of the other greats (Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas), his revolutionary formation of the gangster-genre in the multi-award-winning film The Godfather (1972) cemented his legendary status in Hollywood. However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for Coppola - the filmmaker endured various setbacks in his career with projects such as Apocalypse Now (1979), widely considered one of the greatest films ever made, even though it almost led to his own demise.
