For Jean-Luc Godard, challenging the conventions of traditional French filmmaking led him to rewrite the language of cinema. In his own words, he 'blew apart' the popular way films were made. His first feature film (Breathless, 1960) brought universal attention to a new style of filmmaking and has been widely recognised as one of the best films ever made.
