A Cinematic Giant
Born in 1943, Robert De Niro grew up in New York City. The son of two artists, he was never far from the creative life. Dropping out of high school to pursue acting, he trained in the Stanislavski method, learning how to dive deep into a character's psychology, inhabiting a role completely. His debut came in 1968's Greetings; a few years later he played one of his most iconic parts: a young Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II. He went on to portray the tortured cabbie Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, before another gangster turn in 1990's Goodfellas. De Niro has proven himself a master, having won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
