The Original Bond

A keen bodybuilder and footballer, Sir Sean Connery was born in Edinburgh in 1930. He got his break portraying a Seabees chorus boy in a production of South Pacific. He was given a slightly better part during the tour, and came back for more the following year – this time, in a leading role. Television was his next port of call, and it wasn’t too long before the handsome Scot broke into film.

After Dr. No he played Bond four more times, and although it made him an icon, he gave up the job because of its limitations. In the succeeding decades he continued to land roles, appearing in pictures like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Highlander, and The Name of the Rose.
